FHP: Daytona Beach man killed crossing St. Petersburg street

ST. PETERSBURG — A 59-year-old Daytona Beach man was fatally injured Monday night when he walked into the path of a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place at about 9 p.m. near the intersection of 49th Street N and 58th Avenue N. Jack Martin Tashjian, of Daytona Beach, was walking west across 49th Street N, just north of 58th Avenue N.

Douglas John Summers, 61, of Clearwater, was driving a 2004 Ford sedan north on 49th Street N. Troopers said the pedestrian walked into the path of the car and was struck.

Tashjian was taken to Northside Hospital where he died from his injuries, according to the Highway Patrol. Summers was not injured.

Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the incident, troopers said.
