Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the beaches, another seasonal cold front dropped cool air into the Tampa Bay area, sending temperatures well below normal.
High temperatures only reached 63 Tuesday, significantly below the 74-degree norm. Overnight lows dropped into the 40s and are expected to slowly climb up to 62 Wednesday afternoon. It’ll look sunny out today, but wind gusts between 20 and 25 mph will keep it feeling like temps are in the 50s.
According to the National Weather Service, high pressure stationed over the Gulf of Mexico is helping to pull in that cooler air, which is being fed in from a strong high-pressure system over the southern plains and lower Mississippi River valley. The high-pressure system pumping in cold air should begin to shift east as we head into Thursday, however.
While things will get quite chilly overnight, east winds and sunny skies will quickly bring temperatures back around normal by the afternoon. Highs will be around normal for Thursday and Friday, then climb to the 80s by Saturday, when warmth and slightly humid air will hold heading into the beginning of next week.
According to the Weather Service, the only chance for rain will come Sunday afternoon and it’s only a slight chance at that.
