Forecast: Heat continues across Tampa Bay, but slightly cooler air arrives on Sunday

Unseasonably warm weather and muggy conditions are once again the rule across Tampa Bay, with just a slight chance of afternoon showers dampening what figures to be nearly ideal beach days through the weekend.

Thursday’s temperatures are starting off in the upper 60s, just a couple of degrees short of what should the average high for the fourth week of February, according to the National Weather Service.

Some inland areas are experiencing patchy fog that should dissipate by mid-morning, leading to partly cloudy skies and highs in the low to mid 80s, forecasters said. That won’t quite get to Tampa’s record of high in 1961, but it will still be warmer than usual, fueled by the high humidity and balmy winds from the southeast.

Lows will only drop to near 70.

Much of the same is forecast for Friday and Saturday, with highs in the mid to upper 80s and a stray chance of showers. A weak cold front will produce cooler — yet still above-average — temperatures in the low 80s on Sunday, but highs in the upper 70s by Monday and into the work week.
